The Epson Perfection V750 Pro is the company’s flagship printer for photos, compared to the V700 Photo. SilverFast AI6 scanner software and MonacoEZcolor color management application are being included with the device. EpsonScan, Epson’s proprietary scanning software, is also included. Flatbed scanners are only somewhat effective for imaging film material since the picture quality does not approach the level of a “real” film scanner, which is also true with regard to “big brother.” Affordable flatbed scanners produce the poorest results, with a cheap transparency unit installed for marketing purposes.
I bought a Hewlett Packard Scanjet IIcx back in the early 1990s, and until I got my Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Scanner, I hadn’t seen any scanner outperform it. Most scanners sound fantastic on paper, but after you get them home, they are an exercise in futility for anything beyond occasional usage. They are even worse than most multi-function printers in terms of frustration.
I’m happy to say that the V750 is a capable scanner, as far as Epson is concerned. In contrast to the V700 Photo, I now find myself using it for daily tasks like making photocopies and significant tasks like scanning color pictures for use. The device comes with the SilverFast AI6 scanner software and the MonacoEZcolor color management application.
In addition, EpsonScan, Epson’s proprietary scanning application, is offered. Since the picture quality does not approach the level of a “real” film scanner, flatbed scanners are only somewhat effective for imaging film material. They are also true with regard to “big brother,” which is marketed as a cheap transparency unit. Bringing film negatives into the digital realm is the most difficult job in the world today.
It was a breeze to set up the scanner, aside from a few tapes and the typical lock found on scanners. I tried both the USB and 1394 connections, but I couldn’t tell which one was better. Because I was short on USB ports, I stayed with 1394.
The scanner comes with a profile-building software called X-Rite EZColor. It seemed to work well and was simple to use. I was a happy camper because I appreciated having a calibrated scanner profile right away. One may identify obvious quality distinctions between the results of a tiny digital compact camera and a big digital mirror reflex camera with the same resolution by comparing scans from a high-quality film scanner to those from a flatbed scanner with a transparency unit.
In the summer of 2007, we put the Epson Perfection V750 Pro through its paces and produced a brief test review. Almost exclusively aside from the software, the Epson Perfection V750 Pro is differentiated from the Epson Perfection V750. As a result, we’d like to spend some time discussing the distinctions that have resulted. We have previously published a separate web page with a thorough review of the Epson Perfection V700 Photo.
In the test report on the Epson Perfection V700 Photo, you can read everything about the scanner’s equipment, accessories, performance data, installation and start-up. Scanners are not a factor here. We’ll just focus on a few features that are unique to the Epson V750 and set him apart from the smaller V700 in the following.
